In 2011, our story began in the lush landscapes of the Pacific Northwest. We crossed paths through work, where Austin’s passion for clothing design led him to launch his own brand. Nicole, with her keen eye for photography, offered to capture the essence of my designs through her lens. Little did we know, this collaboration would spark a journey that would define our careers.
Driven by our shared love for creativity and fueled by countless cups of coffee, we embarked on a move from Olympia, WA to Anaheim, CA in 2012. Our destination was inspired by an opportunity in LA’s film industry, where serendipity introduced us to a producer during a chance encounter in Seattle.
Our initial film project, like many in Hollywood, faced challenges and ultimately didn’t materialize. Undeterred, we embraced uncertainty with a six-month financial plan, securing jobs to sustain ourselves while pondering our next move. Witnessing inefficiencies and mismanagement in the workplace, Austin took a leap and founded his own venture, driven by a commitment to quality and creativity.
I (Nicole) soon joined him full-time, and together, we cultivated what is now Barkis & Co., a testament to our dedication and shared vision. Over the years, our business has flourished, enabling us to collaborate with diverse clients ranging from small local businesses to international brands across various industries.
While we pride ourselves on our professional expertise, at heart, we’re just a couple of big kids that try not to take ourselves too seriously. We are major coffee enthusiasts and proponents of good, plant-based cuisine. Traveling has always been our passion, whether internationally or domestic road tripping in our beloved coach, with over 500 visits to Disneyland fueling our shared adventures.
